Adopt a Nurse Programme

POWER believes that a healthy community starts with the guardians of patient care – our nurses.

Our mission is to eradicate inequities in treatment, care, and access to healthcare and empower nurses with the knowledge they need to inform and uplift our communities.

That’s why we plan to train 10,000 nurses in Sexual Reproductive Health by 2030.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH TRAINING

Sexual Reproductive Health training for healthcare professionals is a vital component in improving patient outcomes and overall well-being. Our training is conducted by highly specialised and experienced sexual health providers. SRH training improves your practice in these key elements:

Holistic Healthcare Approach:
  • POWER’s SRHR course incorporates a holistic view of health, acknowledging the importance of sexual health as a fundamental aspect of overall well-being. With this, you can assess and integrate patients' sexual health into their overall healthcare plan, leading to more comprehensive patient care.
Improved Communication:
  • This training gives you the skills necessary to communicate effectively about sensitive topics. This open dialogue can lead to better diagnoses, treatment adherence, and outcomes, as patients feel more comfortable discussing issues that might otherwise be taboo or embarrassing.
Enhanced Patient Trust and Comfort:
  • When you display confidence and competence in discussing sexual health, patients are likely to feel more at ease. This trust fosters a more honest exchange of information, crucial for accurate health assessments and the delivery of appropriate care.
Tailored Health Strategies:
  • With knowledge about the diverse expressions of human sexuality and the various factors that can affect sexual health, you can tailor strategies and interventions to the unique needs and circumstances of each patient.
Addressing Psychosocial Components:
  • A well-rounded understanding of SRH includes the psychological and social components of sexual health. You can better support patients dealing with sexual dysfunction, identity issues, relationship challenges, and the psychosocial impact of illnesses.
Improved Treatment of Sexual Dysfunction:
  • With this specialised training, you can offer more effective treatments for sexual dysfunctions. You can identify the underlying causes, whether physical, psychological, or a combination, and provide or refer for appropriate interventions.
Proactive Health Promotion:
  • You can educate patients about sexual health, and promote safe sex practices, which is essential in preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies. This proactive approach is crucial in public health and can significantly improve community health standards.
Advocacy for Sexual Rights:
  • You can become an advocate for patients' sexual rights, ensuring that all individuals receive respectful and nondiscriminatory care regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship status.
Reducing Stigma:
  • Through education and normalisation of discussions around sexual health, you can play a key role in reducing the stigma associated with sexual issues, encouraging more patients to seek help and improving overall health outcomes.
Research and Development:
  • When you are trained in sexology you can contribute to the advancement of sexual health research, leading to better patient education materials, more effective treatments, and a deeper understanding of sexual health as an integral part of human health.

By integrating SRHR training into healthcare education and practice,  a higher calibre of patient centred care can be delivered that respects and addresses all facets of human health, leading to improved patient satisfaction, better health outcomes, and a more enlightened approach to wellness.
